Description
The Cleanup tool allows you to delete unwanted securities from your MetaStock
data folders, freeing up disk space and reducing download time. Note that
cleanup permanently deletes files that meet your criteria.
Dialog
MetaStock folder - specify the MetaStock data folder
that you want to "clean".
Include 1 or 2 levels of subfolders - select this option
to "clean" all of the MetaStock folders that are one or two levels below the
specified MetaStock folder (along with the specified MetaStock folder).
Delete securities that haven't updated in at least x
calendar days - deletes all securities whose last date is more than a
specified number of calendar days ago.
Delete securities with bad start/end dates - deletes
all securities whose start and/or end dates are deemed to be invalid. A rare
condition.
Delete securities with last price less than x per share
- deletes all securities whose price on the last collected day is less than the
specified value.
Average volume less than x in the last y trading days -
deletes securities whose average volume falls below the specified threshold over
the given number of trading periods. Note that some data providers give volume in
100s, and some in 1s, so it is up to you to determine in what units your volume
is stored, and enter the appropriate volume number.
Deleted linked composites - select this to delete any
composites that were created using securities that are to be deleted.
Suppress all messages - usually, Cleanup will prompt
you before deleting the securities in a folder, and will also provide other
informational and warning messages. Select this option only when you are very
comfortable with the operation of this utility.
Create Undo File - select this option to create an
"undo" file in the MetaStock folder that contains the securities to be deleted.
The undo file is simply a text file with the format "NAME,SYMBOL" and is named
"DELETED YYYYMMDD.SYM". All of the securities deleted on the same day are kept
in the same file, no matter how many times Cleanup was run.
To undo a deletion, copy the undo file to your
DownLoader folder, go into the Downloader and select File|New Security|Symbol
Lookup, and look for the file name in the Type drop-down list. Be sure to select
the proper folder at the New Security dialog.
Close - Closes the dialog box. Any changes you have
made are saved.
